Pertev Naili Boratav ise yazarın Almanya'da tanıdığı Frolayn Puder adlı kadının yirmi sekiz yaşında olmasına istinaden Yirmi Sekiz adını düşündüğünü belirtir.Nihayetinde Kürk Mantolu Madonna olarak bugüne ulaşan eseri Sabahattin Ali'nin askerde hatta çatlak olan kolu sargıdayken yazdığı bilinmektedir.
